I’m Marie, the Part I architectural assistant of the smok team.

When I joined smok, it was obvious from the outset that smok is different from other practices, in that there’s an exceptional amount of care in everything we do. While this was immediately evident in the high standard of tea and how biscuits are in good supply, it also turns out to be true about how we address our projects.

During my time here, I’ve been encouraged to push myself and work independently, but with the open office atmosphere, it has always felt like it’s been a group effort, with open conversation and collaboration, and support and encouragement from everyone else in the office. I’m incredibly lucky to have found a desk in the smok office, where the work is varied, the focus on detail is extensive and where the relationships with our clients are key.

Marie graduated with honours from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, with a BSc in Architecture in September 2014. She was born and raised in Hong Kong, but has been in the UK since 2005. She counts fencing, photography and cycling among her interests. Currently, she’s working towards her qualification as a Part I architectural assistant, with hopes to return to formal education to achieve her RIBA Part II in 2017.
